When Is Corrugated Packaging A Better Option To Plywood Carton?

For centuries, wooden boxes were the only means of transporting goods locally and internationally. 

However, in recent years, especially with international concerns about pests, cardboard boxes have become a container of choice, specifically corrugated boxes.

This has not eliminated the need for wooden boxes to transport heavyweight items. So what has happened now is that current businesses have a selection between corrugated packaging and plywood containers.

Either box can be exported without any difficulty and are simple to source from online packaging suppliers, fairly inexpensive, and at brief notice. 

There are advantages to utilizing either packaging source for specific shipping needs, which you will see below.

Plywood Containers

Plywood is a type of treated wood created by fastening thin layers of wood veneer, with grains of adjacent layers rotating up to a 90-degree level.

The key and most noticeable benefit that it has over carton is its strength, capable of keeping and handling heavy items, and better able to stand up against the kind of bumps and knocks on any parcel that might be subject to while in transit.

There is another advantage of that excess resilience, which is that plywood boxes can be reused more quickly and several times.

But it is not only the strength that renders plywood common as an export container solution; it is also better suited to extremes of moisture and humidity than carton, and since it has been processed, it is not subject to the pesky pest restrictions listed above that stop the use of untreated wood.

This superior strength makes it suitable for moving heavy equipment across the country.

When it comes to packing, it’s a lot easier than gently lowering a large piece of metal into a narrow room.

Corrugated Cardboard Boxes

After all, you might be wondering what the future is for the poor old cardboard box, which certainly can’t strive with that impressive list of selling points for the plywood box, but it’s not that easy, of course.

If you plan to ship heavy equipment across the globe, the plywood price would not be an issue. Otherwise, it can be a costly undertaking. 

However, choices if you’re sending lighter weight materials or goods locally or regionally, corrugated packaging are the ideal. 

Plywood is also inherently going to be heftier than corrugated cardboard, so that’s another way you might find that it’s going to raise your costs.

And when it comes to export, however, there are still cardboard alternatives that will be more than sufficient enough for most goods and most destinations. 

Triple wall boxes can have 15mm of security around your product and can comfortably accommodate up to around 50kg; you can increase that figure ten times over on a pallet.

Overall, both are excellent options for shipping goods overseas and corrugated cartons are less costly than plywood cartons of the same volume. 

However, while the cardboard would be considerably lighter, plywood can handle more weight.
